The name, Hechimon, is derived from the Japanese word used by the Shigaraki craftsmen for "one of a kind" or unique things. It means no two Shigaraki pieces would be identical. Shigaraki ware, one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns, has about 1,300years of history. Besides the unique earthy texture, Shigaraki ware is renowned because of its simple warmth and rich expressiveness. It would leave the pottery a fragrance of tea after using a period of time.

Marui Seito

Founded in 1925, Marui Seito is a third generation Shigaraki ware producer. Creating a wide range of pottery pieces with unremitting efforts to meet the needs of people since the Taisho period. Shigaraki ware possess the aesthetic qualities of “Wabi-Sabi”.

Came from the town of Shigaraki in Shiga prefecture, Shigaraki ware is one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns. It was designated as a National Traditional Craft in 1976. Due to subtle changes that depend on the temperature and firing method, Shigaraki ware's white clay takes on a scarlet glow and warm coloring, a characteristic unique to this craft.
